Préveza   38ºN57'  020ºE45'

May 2010

When you enter the Préveza channel, you will see at starboard various private marinas and shipyard: Cleopatra, Préveza Marine Ionian and Aktio. In fact you cannot winter there a float, and there are hun dreds od boats out of the water. On portboard, you discover the toiwn of Préveza. You can go bow or stern to the town quay, or even along side in low season. There are a few water points (from the flowers!) and the space is free of charge. A little further you have the public marina with water on the pontoons, also free. Some charter companies claim the space but this is not official! Behind the marina you have a large bay that offer decent shelters from the dominant winds, mainly in sand. The town of Préveza has not a lot of charm to offer nevertheless the pedestrian zone of the quay and inner streets are pleasant. Note that on the quay, the bars and restaurants play music till 3 in the morning on the week end! You will find all types of shops, including international news agents. But we could not find an automatic laundry shop. You can get camping gas at the supermarket in the made walking street or at the ship chandler closer to the small boats marina. (8€ for the 2.7 kg bottle).

Vonitsa   38ºN55'  020ºE53'

May 2010

When It is raining and raining.... After a few days of heavy winds, now we have thunderstorms! I feel really sorry for whom has rent a sailboat this week!

Vonitsa is located in the Amvrakia Gulf. The village, dominated by its castle, has a large beach and two small (free) marinas. The first one is for passing sail boats, the other one is for small fishing boats. You will find all types of shops in the village, even courier services, three fish shops, three supermarkets, gas stations, etc, but none of the typical souvenirs ones. Vonitsa seems not to be an outbound tourists destination, and we saw only two charter boats. An ideal place....

We are at the anchor in the small bay, East of the beach, just behind a small island protecting us from the winds. The holding, in sand and grass, is very good.

Nisos Levka: Ligia   38ºN47'  020ºE43'

May 2010

Ligia is located at the end of the Lafka canal when you arrive from Levka town. The harbor is basically a fishing port and there is little place for a visitors boat. But you can anchor just north of it, in sand and herbs. Be careful because it can be difficult to place well your anchor. The village is not what you can call a picturesque place, but the tavernas located along the waterfront are very nice. We recommend yopu the one called 7 Islands. It has a little pontoons for the tenders, with a large greek flag. The moussaka prepared by the grand mother is delicius and it is one of the best places to eat very grilled fish. The owners, Jorge and Angelos, as well as their dutch friend Marjon are very friendlies . Jorge even offered me his car to go and do some shopping! They will also  come and pick you up at your sailboat if you wish so.(Tel: 2645071747).

In the village you will fing supermarkets, bakeries and gas station...

Nisos Levka: Órmos Vlikho    38ºN42'  020ºE42'

May 2010

The Gulf of Vlikho, that is just round the corner of Skorpios, the private island of the Onassis family is at the South end of the Levkas island.  At the entrance of the Gulf, you have the little harbor of Nidri. We did not stop at this very touristic place that was also crowded, neither at the Tranquil bay just opposite. We went at the south east end of the Gulf and laid anchor in sand and weed close to the tavernas, which are very nice. The one called Dimitris offers free water at his pontoon (1.6 to 1.8 m. depth). There is a small food shop behind the Tavernas.

Gulf of Palairos and Vounaki Marina    38ºN46'  020ºE52'

May 2010

This morning we sailed first to the Gulf of Paleiros, reaching the little port of the same name. The place looked nice, with lots of tavernas along side the water front, and old church and a few nice old houses. Nevertheless the little port was crowded with charter boats and we needed water.

So we directed ourself to Vounaki Marina, located South of Paleiros. But here again it was crowded. It is in fact the Sunsail base for the region and on Sunday all their boats were in. And in fact it has no charm at all.

One tree Bay   38ºN45'732  020ºE47'255

May 2010

That is the name given to our Australian friends to this beach, that is located close to Vathi-Vali, but that is not mentioned in the pilot book and has no name on the chart. A long stone beach, clear water and nothing more! Not even a taverna. A real paradise. Don’t tell anybody...
